چکیده

UNLABELLED Hearing aid. AIM To compare the performance, benefit and satisfaction of users of ITE, CIC and BTE digital hearing aid with noise reduction and omnidirectional and directional microphones. METHOD 34 users of hearing aid were evaluated by means of speech perception in noise tests and APHAB and IOI self assessment questionnaires. Prospective study. RESULTS Better results were obtained by users of ITE, CIC and directional hearing aids, however, no statistical significance was found between the groups. CONCLUSION Directivity improved speech perception in noise and benefit in daily life situations.

Predictability of speech-in-noise performance from real ear measures of directional hearing AIDS.

OBJECTIVE Inability to understand speech in noise has been cited repeatedly as the principal complaint of hearing aid users. While data exist documenting the benefit provided by hearing aids with directional microphones when listening to speech in noise, little work has been done to develop a standard clinical protocol for fitting these hearing aids. Our goal was to evaluate a clinical measure ...

Monaural Beamforming in Bimodal Cochlear Implant Users: Effect of (A)symmetric Directivity and Noise Type

OBJECTIVE To evaluate monaural beamforming in bimodally aided cochlear implant (CI) users. DESIGN The study enrolled twelve adult bimodal listeners with at least six months of CI-experience and using a contralateral hearing aid (HA) most of the daytime. Participants were uniformly fitted with the same CI speech processor and HA, giving access to an identical monaural beamformer in both ears. ...

Quantification of directional benefit across different polar response patterns.

The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between the directivity of a directional microphone hearing aid and listener performance. Hearing aids were fit bilaterally to 19 subjects with sensorineural hearing loss, and five microphone conditions were assessed: omnidirectional, cardioid, hypercardioid, supercardioid, and "monofit," wherein the left hearing aid was set to omnidirect...

Speech Perception in Children with Cochlear Implants

Cochlear implants provide access to the speech signal in children with hearing loss that often cannot benefit from acoustic hearing aids. However, despite the numerous positive results in pediatric cochlear implantation, published data still indicated a wide range of performance among implant recipients. Hence, a need to study the possible variables that can affect performance, could account fo...

Reliability of Interaural Time Difference-Based Localization Training in Elderly Individuals with Speech-in-Noise Perception Disorder

Background: Previous studies have shown that interaural-time-difference (ITD) training can improve localization ability. Surprisingly little is, however, known about localization training vis-à-vis speech perception in noise based on interaural time difference in the envelope (ITD ENV). We sought to investigate the reliability of an ITD ENV-based training program in speech-in-noise perception a...
